    We are currently seeking a post-doctoral researcher at the University of California, San Diego. The aim of the project is to investigate and quantify the links between heat and tropospheric ozone and mechanisms that drive associated respiratory outcomes in California, with a particular focus on social disparities. The successful candidate will also have the freedom to explore their own research interests in the area of climate change and health and/or in causal inference methods. Strong understanding of epidemiological methods and in particular of causal inference methods is required. Experience with time series modeling, atmospheric science, and interest in social epidemiology are desired. The successful candidate must have strong programming skills in R, Stata and/or SAS, excellent problem-solving skills, creative and interdisciplinary thinking.

    The selected candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Tarik Benmarhnia and Dr. Alexander (Sasha) Gershunov at the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health and Scripps Institution of Oceanography. This project is also in collaboration with Dr. Rupa Basu at the California EPA and regular meetings in Oakland, CA are anticipated. The position will include leading data analysis and manuscript writing in collaboration with the research team.

    A doctoral degree in epidemiology, public health, environmental health sciences or equivalent is required. Applicants who do not have a completed Ph.D. at the time of application must include a letter from their Ph.D. supervisor specifying the date of their dissertation defense.

    Per normal Postdoctoral appointment policies, the initial appointment is for one year, with an opportunity for an extension after successful completion of the first year. Start date is flexible, but early 2019 is preferable. Preference will be given to applications received by 31 December 2018. Salary will be based on qualifications and experience.
