  1. Informed consent by proxy : a dilemma in long term care research.

    Article - En anglais

There is a need for both clinical and policy-oriented research in long-term care institutions, but there is also concern about the special ethical dilemmas presented in the conduct of such research.

Much of the concern centers around the issue of the competency of elderly subjects to make informed decisions about participating.

In this paper, the authors present some of the ethical dilemmas in the context of a case study, and discuss an approach to analyzing and addressing these dilemmas in the absence of an institutional ethics committee.
