Radiological protection in the UK.
The National Radiation Protection Board (NRPB), the national radiation protection authority in the United Kingdom, was established 1970 for research and public relations activities to protect people from the effects of ionizing and non ionizing radiation.
It primarily gives instructions to the executive agencies of the Departments of Health and Safety, the Environment, and Transport.
On a national and an European level, the NRPB cooperates in drafting legislation.
Research findings are expressed in instructions or conditions imposed, and are reflected in equipment and instruments under development.
The Ministers of Health appoints the Chairman of the NRPB and the Board members.
