The restrictiveness of educational settings is an important concept in the placement of students with disabilities, particularly those students with emotional or behavior disorders (EBD).
The purpose of the present study was to develop and validate a scale to assess educational settings.
One hundred twelve supervisors of programs for students with EBD in Illinois responded to a survey asking them to rate the restrictiveness of 18 settings.
The results of the survey are discussed in terms of how the scale can be used to asses student programs and evaluate educational programs.
