Frank mental disorders, such as depression and panic disorder, are prevalent in primary care; they cause people substantial suffering and interfere with daily functioning.
Even subthreshold or « subsyndromal » conditions, with fewer symptoms than necessary for making a diagnosis, cause substantial morbidity.
