    Nonnormal fluids - such as vitreous humor, bile, pericardial, and synovial fluids - are often useful in determining, for example, the presence of diabetes mellitus, the length of the early and late postmomrtem intervals, and whether alcohol or other drugs have been consumed.

    Analysis of amniotic fluid can reveal causes of fetal death; vaginal fluid can yield samples of DNA analysis that may help identify an assailant.
