  1. Evaluation of neonatal transport in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

    Objective

    To evaluate the current status of neonatal transport in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

    Design

    Survey conducted in the year 1988 by questionnaire to be completed by referring and receiving hospitals and simultaneous on-site evaluation.

    Setting and facilities

    All hospitals with neonatal and/or perinatal care facilities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

    Main outcome measures

    Rate, direction and indication of transfers, organization and mode of transportation.

    Results

    The number of annual neonatal transports was 4317 transfers (1.99% of the total 217 231 live births).

    The direction of transfers was such that 84.2% of them were received by the larger Ministry of Health hospitals, 7.9% by university teaching hospitals and 1.1% by military hospitals.
