This paper presents a methodology for estimating worker risk occurring during remediation of radioactively contaminated sites.
The methodology was applied to estimate remediation worker risks associated with remediation of 17 DOE sites.
Fatal construction and off-site transportation risks associated with remediation of the sites were also evaluated.
Cancer risks associated with exposure to radiation were found to be about nine times lower on average than construction- and transportation-related accident fatalities.
