Directors and deans of accredited clinical laboratory science (CLS) programs that offer a master's degree were surveyed to assess the prospects for development of CLS doctoral degree programs.
Program directors and deans from 34 institutions were surveyed about plans to institute doctoral programs, perceptions of their institutions' resources in support of doctoral programs, as well as the institutions' actual resources.
Responses were received from 32 institutions.
Deans and directors tended to view pessimistically several factors related to program institution: Funding, available faculty time and numbers, student demand, and employer demand.
