To sample the practice styles of emergency physicians caring for acute traumatic wounds.
US emergency departments obtained from the American College of Emergency Physicians mailing list.
Randomly selected ACEP members.
One hundred fifty-one of 285 (53%) survey mailings were returned.
Eighty-six percent of respondents were primarily clinicians, and the majority (61.6%) worked in EDs with annual patient visits between 21,000 and 50,000.
The majority of respondents (64.2%) were certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
