    The use of automated record linkage databases (LDs) to define lingitudinal pharmaceutical and other toxic substance exposures and health outcomes in defined populations has begun to provide epidemiology with powerful and efficient new approaches.

    LDs have been rapidly developing in the last two decades; they have both advantages and disadvantages which are well illustrated by their application to pharmacoepidemiology.
