In recent years, a topic referred to as « technology assessment in health care » has been developed in order to aid more rational prioritisation of medical services.
This present paper outlines some of the terminology which has been adopted by the practitioners of this new field and gives definitions of the major concepts.
The presentation will emphasise the need for a multidisciplinary approach to technology assessment in health care and in particular will highlight the need for an involvement of biomedical/clinical engineers.
