During the last two decades the use of agricultural chemicals has increased and slowly attention is being turned towards the diffuse or non-point pollution sources.
Many states now acknowledge agricultural activities as being the single largest contributor to non-point water quality problems and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) recognises that excess nitrate can pose serious threats to the environment.
The paper addresses the available agricultural technology and practises, as well as USDA run programs and projects run by other federal agencies.
