  1. The ratio of internal dose due to inhalation to the external dose when machining radioactive accelerator components.

    An estimate has been made of the ratio of the internal dose (effective dose equivalent and lung dose equivalent) due to inhalation, to the external dose due to gamma radiation when machining radioactive accelerator components.

    This is based upon experimentally obtained distributions of radioactive nuclides in various materials as well as measured aerosol concentrations when working with steel.

    The internal dose does not exceed the easily measurable external gamma dose.
