Are 5 to 10 heart transplantations a year sufficient, to acquire the necessary experience for good results ?
This work report similarity between heart transplantations and renal transplantations.
From 1984 to 1986, 165 renal allografs have been performed in five newly transplantation centers and the results were compared with those of other larger centers.
The graft survival curve for each center was compared through a log-rank test, showing that there is no center influence.
Heart transplantations may be maintained in both quantity and quality.
