  1. Air pollution control on base of fuel supply management.

    Slovenia got in November 1994 12 ordinances which legalised the air pollution (emission) limit values (ELV) for certain polluting substances into the air from stationary missions sources.

    Slovenian legislation based on German's regulations and European's directives (guidelines).

    Monitoring of emissions is also required by emissions legislation.

    The purpose of ordinances is to provide for further measures and procedures designed to prevent or reduce the air pollution Legislation in Slovenia requires first, periodical and continuous measurements.

    In case of municipality of Maribor, we began to carry out air pollution measurements after 1987.

    We have discovered that in the 80's the critical concentrations were very often exceeded in the heating season.

    The main reason for such conditions were numerous small and larger furnaces using environmentally unsuitable fuel, which resulted in highly increased concentrations of sulfur dioxide, but only in the time of heating periods from October to March.

    Maribor was classified in area IV of air pollution, i.e. the area in which critical concentrations are exceeded, dioxide that is the concentrations endangering people's health.

    Comparable data on air pollution with sulfur are obtainable for the period after 1985. (...)
