  1. Indoor air quality and architectural project : Brazilian experience.

    This paper presents a study about Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and its relation to architectural projects based on a Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) developed in an Electrical Energy Research Center, situated at Rio de Janeiro.

    The objective of this work is to present means for the development of architectural projects considering Indoor Air Quality in the building and to help to minimize problems of IAQ in old buildings.

    As an approach to the problem it presents the characterization of indoor air, considering its behavior from the exterior to the intake, during its passage through ventilation system, and its reaction with inside indoor pollutants.

    This paper shows the Post Occupancy Evaluation carried out on this public building, where is installed a Research Center, preceding the implementation of an Energy Conservation Program.

    A building diagnosis was done based on all data obtained and also on a stay during a period of one year inside the building.

    The architectural project of the building was analyzed and as well as the air conditioning project.

    The occurrence of the Sick Building Syndrome has been identified in the building.

    As a strategy to improve the IAQ of this building was presented an emergency action with the implementation of an Indoor Air Quality Controlling Program. (...)
