Commitment to care : Managed care and child incarceration.
1 Many of the children and adolescents arrested for violent crimes each year have serious psychological illnesses that have either precipitated or contributed to their dangerous behaviors. 2 Prompt diagnosis and treatment of both affective and behavioral disorders is imperative for these children because early onset can signal a much greater risk for repeat episodes. 3 Advanced practice nurses (APNs) are in a particularly advantageous position of early detection, intervention, and referral of many children or adolescents in the course of routine patient assessment.
