    Article, Communication - En anglais

VHPB International Congress. Madrid, ESP, 1997/11/17.

Hepatitis B (HB) vaccines are safe and effective.

To control HB infection at a population level, use of this vaccine in a routine immunization programme targeted at specific age groups has been recommended.

Young adolescents (10 to 13 yr of age) are a group which may well be considered for such a programme, especially if school-based.

This paper outlines some of the rationale, advantages and disadvantages of targeting this age group for HB vaccine as well as providing some recommendations regarding operational matters related to such a programme.
