Traduction en anglais : Introducting statistical software to medical biometry teaching.
After a brief description of the incorporation of statistics software into the biometry course at the Department of Medical Statistics and Documentation in Mainz (Germany), the results of a student survey on acceptance and increased motivation due to software involvement are reviewed.
Large, recent trials have allowed us to analyse clinically relevant data showing remarkable improvement in the acceptance of medical biometry.
This improvement, however, also depends upon the teachers'competence in motivating the learning of medical biometry and its connection to clinical research.
Recommended guidelines for appropriate application of statistical software in medical statistics teaching are summarised.
