1 Managed care produces an ethical dilemma for the mental health nursing profession.
High costs must be contained and services increased, yet there are ethical costs and risks to managed care. 2 If patient needs are not being met under managed care, nurses have an obligation to try to change those situations. 3 The threat of managed care can be turned into an opportunity and challenge for mental health nurses to maintain long-established nursing values.
