Traduction en anglais : Transportation ecology : Where is this leading to ?
The (new ?) field « transportation ecology » (transportation and environment) and the focus of this field were described in the journal.
However, consequences arising from these approaches remained to be discussed.
This paper describes requirements derived from environmental considerations for all future transportation and develops guidelines ( « categorical imperatives ») for nowadays decisions : I Do everything to improve transportation systems ecologically by technical means.
II Do everything to reduce passenger/vehicle miles travelled.
III Do everything to expand or at least to not reduce the options and possibilities of all other/all future humans to change or choose their own transportation system.
Sustainable mobility can only be achieved if passenger miles and/or vehicle miles travelled in our societies are reduced.
Transport measures which help to increase these distances can be found to be of advantage in many ways - ecologically these measures are wasting time and money.
