    1 The number of ethnic minority persons in the United States is increasing faster than that of the Caucasian population.

    This means that nurses will be caring for an increasingly diverse patient pool. 2 Ethnic differences have been discovered to play a role in the efficacy of psychoactive medication.

    These differences result from a number of biological as well as non biological factors. 3 Nurses have a professional obligation to be aware and sensitive to differential response to treatment.
