Traduction en anglais : Study of water quality of a northeast Brazil state.
Physical parameters such as total alpha-activity, total bêta-activity and dissolved solids were assessed on 37 fresh water samples gathered in 30 locations scattered throughout the central and eastern parts of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil.
The total alpha-activity ranged<2.8 - 354 Bq/m3 exibiting an average value of 54.4 Bq/m3.
The total bêta-activity lay between 50.5 and 580 Bq/m3 with a mean value of 226 Bq/m3.
The corresponding figures for dissolved solids were 85,2375 and 619 g/m3, respectively.
The total bêta-activity was always higher than the corresponding alpha-activity.
Besides, water from underground sources was generally more radioactive than water from superficial sources.
Finally, taking into account the dose conversion factors suggested by the lcrp, a conservative dosimetric calculation was performed for people who drink one litre of water per day.
An annual average effective dose equivalent of 60±43 muSv was thus obtained.
