1 Integrated primary health care is a biopsychosocial approach that emphasizes the relational, contextual nature of health care, viewing mental health care as instrumental in prevention, health promotion, and the treatment of acute, episodic, and chronic illness. 2 Among the strengths that advanced practice nurses bring to the primary care arena are a commitment to client education and advocacy, a history of independent practice, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines. 3 The hallmark of the next decade of health care will be partnership, including patients and families in health care is the cornerstone of integrated primary health care.
