Symposium of the European Association of Geriatric Psychiatry. Lund (SWE), 1995/10/06.
Psychogeriatric services have been established in most Health Districts of the UK.
The distribution is unequal and whilst some communities are receiving better and better service, others have little or no specialist help.
Psychogeria-tricians are still in short supply and carry heavy workloads and many prefer to join well-developed services rather than experience the stresses of pioneer work in unfashionable areas.
Centres of excellence might improve the spread of good practice and broaden their research base by seconding senior staff to deprived areas on short-term or longer-term contracts.
