Evaluating study of case management of diarrheal diseases in Thailand.
Diarrhea is still a major health problem in Thailand, its morbidity rate is ranked first while its mortality is the second in the top ten diseases.
The Ministry of Public Health, has put effort to the program for control of diarrheal disease by supporting facilities and training health staffin diarrhea case management.
This study is based on health facility assessment recommended by the World Health Organization, conducted by National Control of Diarrheal Disease Program in Thailand.
The main objectives were to identify the quality of diarrhea case management in health facilities and to detect problems of health facilities for appropriate case management.
The study consists of establishment of the evaluating team, selection of health facilities for the evaluation based on sampling and setting up the instruments used for the evaluation.
The quality of diarrhea case management in health facilities is still inappropriate.
Use of inappropriate antibiotics and other drugs in the treatment of diarrhea was found in 26.04-43.40% of 25 health facilities.
The education program and materials need to be reviewed.
Improvement of this situation, therefore requires effort such as additional training of health personnel, more effective supervision, a better system for distributing supplies and more effective health education.
