  1. Role of the operator in the safety of the nuclear industry.

    Nuclear plants depend on the skill and experience of operators despite the rapid advances in technology to address safety in the nuclear industry.

    The nuclear reactor operator interacts with the plant and forms an integral part of the system.

    The operator's performance can be influenced by the control room design, data presentation, staff selection and training, and other factors.

    Proper resource allocation and management support is a foremost consideration.

    The IEE Working Group on Nuclear Power organized a Colloquium on nuclear operating safety which examined issues ranging from human reliability aspects, cognitive/conceptual errors, and the use of ergonomics in control room design.
